Hi there, my name is Rick Bakker, and along with my fiance, are looking for some walleye fishing. I'm heading over to the mainland from Vancouver Island the last week of June and first week of July to camp and hopefully get in some freshwater fishing. I understand it's pretty good in the Columbia River below the Keenleyside dam, from Castlegar all the way down to the US border. Are there any good places to fish from shore, or safely in a small boat. I have a 12' boat with a 8hp Yamaha outboard. I have little or no experience river boating, so any info, tips, ideas would be greatly appreciated. Maybe we could hook up and share a coffeee and some fishing.

You are bang on! Below the dam in Castlegar is the place to be for walleye. There are however other places to go in the area for walleye like Erie Lake east of Fruitvale, B.C. Be very careful on the Columbia River when boating or wading. It's scary at times. As much as I like this You will also want to check out BC's other famous fishing forum and do a search for "walleye" and/or the Columbia River. That forum has a more extensive body of literature (if I can use that word). Try this link. Perhaps this thread should be moved to the Kootenays?
