If you are casting 'zildas, buzzbombs etc for larger fish, I would go with the Fenwick HMXT 1100MH-2
This is the HMX model 2 piece in 11 foot length. It is a medium heavy action and can handle the extra weight as well as any fish you will likely catch from a breakwater/pier.
I would combine this with the Shimano Calcutta CT 400 which is just a gem of a reel and will handle all the leightweight duties as well as larger fish.
Another rod you may consider if you are targeting smaller coho/bluebacks etc. is the new Berkley Air IM7 The model is the A92 9-6M...thus a lighter weight 9 ft. 6" 2 piece rod that will also perform beautifully with the Calc 400........Any good quality spinning reel would also match with this rod as well.
Cheers,......The HMX is around $150.00 The Berkley is around $100.00 and the reel is around $325.00
Good luck out there.........and check all the internet prices before you phone the store....There is some flexibility if you were to do a package at most shops......Ortho 8)
