I have two Islanders and love them both equally! They're great reels. I hope to extend my collection someday to perhaps getting a milner as well.

Right now I have a Silex superba, an Islander and a Trophy winterrun somewhere...I've had others, but this is what I have right now.

I prefer the silex, for many reasons, but mainly...the handles are set in from the rim of the reel more so I can use the rim to feather the drifts and to clamp down on fish without getting my fingers busted when a fish goes on a tear...also line capacity, and the clicker is efficient. The islander is good, there are some things I don't like about it, but it's a nice reel for the most part. The winter run is the old version I use it for summer cap as it is lighter, but I pretty much wouldn't use it anywhere else...

There are a lot of good reels out there Guiseppe, the kingfisher is another popular one, the Talisman is a nice reel...take you time looking for one, listen carefully to some of the guys here...some fish their pins religiously, others keep them on a shelf...

No prob Guiseppe, there are a lot of really good fishermen here, and I am sure you'll get some great advice. If we get the chance to fish together some time soon, you can test drive the silex and the islander to get a feel for it...

I don't think I'll be at the fishout, but there'll probably be a few pins out there, I'm sure of the guys would let you take a few casts with them...

Best advice...? Don't rush the purchase...try a few reels out to get a feel for the different styles...

Unfortunately I will be in Europe during the fishout. But I will be very happy to meet with you when I am back in november.

hey barbelface, how is it? Do you use the adjustable drag while using it? Can you completely ignore this option?

G
The drag isn't a suser freindly as some of the other pins out there so I just tend to set it depending on weight of rig and flow etc and leave it there. It's a nice light reel though and spins very well :) another factor was I got a killer deal at a boxing day sale at Island outfitters, in victoria, last year ;D

I have a gryce and young as well as a avon royal2. I fish the gryce and young mainly but do use the avon from time to time on the smaller flows. I would love to get an islander but that will have to wait.
