there are a few snags there on the lower part, and the water is much lower. On your way to Grassy you will pass Wellingdon bar ( it the one with the tents to your right) it is very shallow there, and mostly reserved for jet boats. The main channel where fish go is too far to cast from shore... your basically casting into 2 feet of water till about 40 feet off shore, then it gets deep again.
The funny thing about the river is that we try to get away from the crowds by being in our boats.. the only problem is that the crowds are at the right spots.... Many people fishing an area is a very good indication of a good fishing spot.
Fishing at grassy can be great you just need to be in the right spot, the fish come up behind the big snag at the bottom , circle around close to shore, then about mid bar the fish begin to scatter again into the middle where they begin to school up and head up. Short cast near the bottom, long bomb at the top end.
