Asking for a CP for christmas but I was told there was a budget so was looking for a cheaper starter set up as I have never used a CP before. Found the Streamside (can't remember model number) and it was within budget so what do you guys think of it. Also looked for a cheaper rod and found the streamside float rod rated 8-17 # an a 11'3 rod. This was also within Budget. Never heard of these until now so what do you guys think of it. Any other rod suggestions for around 100 bucks. On a tight budget here but don't want to buy crap either. They both looked good to me but I have never used one so my opinion doesn't mean much. I seached the site and the internet for more info but couldn't find much so your opinions would be awsome. Thanks in advance.

I have no experience with any of the streamside products.

As far as a pin rod for around $100, before i bought my sage, I had a trophy xl 10'6" med action that i really liked. A shimano convergance is a decent rod but I liked the trophy better. Sounds like a little thing but when looking at pin rods, look for a rod that has the threads going up to where the reel sits instead of down. Maybe its just a personal thing but i prefer with a centerpin to have my hand on the cork when using the reel instead of my hand on the threads.

The Streamside is a copy of the GLoomis tournament drifter, I used to have one and it is a very heavy reel compared to a lot of pins out there, that said it is probably bullet proof. For a first reel, go for if its a good price. New they are $259 Canadian http://www.centerpinangling.com/centerpinreels.html As far as a rod I would go with either a Trophy or Convergance. If you don't like pinning you'll be able to sell the set up for probably close to what you pay.

I had one, i fell on it, dropped it, got dirt in it, covered in roe, it kept fishing great. Sold it to get cash for my silex's. I wouldn't get that rod, i'd go with the amundson's. I have one and it hooked a few this year. ;) Its the CM2116 rod, rated 8-17lb. Its an 11'6 heavy action 2 power/ light action 3 power, lots of flex, but good amount of extra strength in the rear end. Me and my buddy got ours from Riverside in Coquitlam, good priced, Garry and Christian were great with the service.

There are 2 amundson centerpin rods, the one with the aluminum butt cap and weird finish is NOT!!! the rod i have. Get the one with the rubber but cap, and regular gloss finish on the blank!

Thanks for the advice guys. I actually found the exact same reel brand new for about 30 bucks cheaper:) As for a rod I guess I will have to get out and look around. I know the general rods that I will be looking at now though. Thanks again. I have tried CP's before and I have to say this will be a permanent transfer over.

Hey JDOG,
I've been very happy with both my Shimano Convergence rods (one for CP/one for level wind:eek::eek:)
When waiting to pick up a Milner Kingfisher, I noticed that the Convergence rods were selling for $59.00 (at River Sportsman in Campbell River)
they through one in for $30 bucks with the purchase of the reel for me,
at $59 bucks thats a great rod :2cents:
once you try CPing you'll never go back

Thanks for everything guys. Just one more question. I use a 10'6 drift rod right now so should I go with the 10'6 or 11'3 or longer. I would be fishing the Vedder size rivers or smaller if that matters. Thanks again guys.
